Is Your Child’s Growth at Risk? The Hidden Link Between Picky Eating, Constipation & Stunting.

A child’s growth isn’t just about height—it’s about proper nutrient absorption and overall health. If your little one is a picky eater, their diet may lack key nutrients needed for healthy development. Add constipation to the mix, and it can further disrupt digestion, making it even harder for their body to absorb essential nutrients.

Signs of constipation—such as pain during defecation, blood in stools, or stool withholding—can cause ongoing discomfort and lead to harder, drier stools over time. If left unaddressed, chronic constipation may contribute to stunted growth and developmental delays.

Take our simple diagnostic test today to check if your child is struggling with functional constipation—and take the first step toward relief and healthy development.

What is poor growth (failure to thrive)?

Poor Growth means slow physical development in a baby or child. It is caused by a baby or child not having enough nutrition. A child with failure to thrive is at risk for problems such as short height, behavior problems and developmental delays.

Relationship between constipation and poor growth?

  1. Reduced appetite
Excessive stool mass in the intestine weakens appetite due to abdominal discomfort, fullness, and nausea. Eating less can lead to low nutrient intake, which affects development.
  2. Low nutrient absorption.
Constipation slows the movement of food through the intestines, causing it to get stuck and preventing the body from properly absorbing nutrients. In chronic cases, this may lead to malnutrition and a weakened immune system.
